“I had breast cancer 7 years ago when I was 43. I underwent a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. At the time I felt the treatment was almost worse than the disease as I reacted badly to the chemotherapy, however I recovered my health quite rapidly once it was finished. Since then I have taken great care of myself and I now feel healthier and stronger than before I was diagnosed. In the past 7 years my life has changed considerably for the better. I have retrained as a counselor and have become self-employed as a consultant, a trainer and a counselor (working partly with people with cancer). My husband and I have moved from an inner city lifestyle to one near the sea on the outskirts of the city where we enjoy clean air, grow vegies and keep chooks. I practice relaxation, have much less stress and feel more positive about myself and my life than ever before.”

“I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in March 2004 when I was 41 years old. My treatment over a period of 9 months consisted of radical chemotherapy, and extensive radiotherapy. The after effects of the treatment have left me with cardiomyopathy, diabetes and continuous pain in the radiation treated area. After the completion of the treatment I was determined to make the most of whatever time I have left and so returned to work in my part-time position. Also during this time I have been active with several community groups and have travelled extensively in Europe, and America. I’m still „Keeping on, keeping on”.
