Exploring the options and decision making – Part 2
Select one of the decisions you listed in part 1 of this worksheet, and now list every option you can think of, with the benefits and risks that you are aware of for each one. To rate the importance of these benefits or risks, you could try using the following scale:
*= Slightly important to me; **= Moderately important to me; ***= very important to me
Please note, you can then do this same process for each decision you face, simply select the next decision from your list, and repeat the process.
Decision | Options | Benefits | Importance | Risks | Risk importance | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Option 1 | Reasonse to choose this option | Slightly important to me | Reasons to avoid this option | Slightly important to me | ||
Option 2 | Reasonse to choose this option | Slightly important to me | Reasons to avoid this option | Slightly important to me | ||
What decision do you face? | Option 3 | Reasonse to choose this option | Moderately important to me | Reasons to avoid this option | Moderately important to me | |
Option 4 | Reasonse to choose this option | Slightly important to me | Reasons to avoid this option | Slightly important to me |
For each decision ask yourself:
Have you listed all your options? | If no, keep entering as many options as you can think of, you may want to enlist some help thinking of the options. If yes, then ask yourself: |
Do you know enough about each option (for example, the benefits & risks)? | If no, list your questions and get them answered (from doctors & written information) – you may want to use two worksheets: „Improving communication with your medical team” and „Getting your questions answered”, to help you talk to your doctors – perhaps talk to others who have made this decision in the past |
Do you want/need to discuss this with someone else? | If yes, complete Part 3 of this worksheet [click ‘Next Page’]. |
